HM1 (SCW/FMF) Jarrett L. Cooper was sworn into the United States Navy on March 19th of 2002 at the age of 21 years old and attended basic training in Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon graduation of boot camp early summer, his “A” school was located across the railroad tracks at Hospital Corps School on board Naval Training Center Great Lakes.

In October 2002, HM1 Cooper graduated Corps School and was assigned to Branch Medical Clinic Mayport, Florida. There he was assigned to the pediatrics and immunizations clinics for 2 years. He was awarded Blue Jacket of the Quarter in 2004.


Petty Officer Cooper then transferred up the coast to Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to be stationed with 2nd Battalion 6th Marines with an intermediate training station at Field Medical Service School. After graduation in December 2004, he was implemented into the battalion’s Head Quarters and Service Company where during his 3 year orders advanced to HM3 in March 2005 and to HM2 in December 2007. While at battalion he deployed twice to Fallujah, Iraq and qualified as a Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist.


HM1 Cooper then interviewed in December 2007 and was selected for orders to Field Medical Training Battalion aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Johnson as an instructor. His first year on board was spent in the administrative department gaining valuable pay, travel, and legal knowledge. The remainder of his tour was spent in the training department guiding corpsmen and religious program specialists through a vigorous eight week training program while also earning his Master Training Specialist qualification.


December 2010 marked another transfer and where he was stationed at Naval Construction Battalion Five in Port Hueneme, California. He was part of the battalion’s detachment Horn of Africa for their 2011 deployment when he qualified as a Seabee Combat Warfare Specialist. He stood as the medical department leading petty officer during the battalion’s 2013 PACOM deployment. January 2014 Petty Officer Cooper checked into Navy Medicine Professional Development Center, Bethesda, MD, where he was selected as the Leading Petty Officer for the Directorate for Administration, Academic Programs Directorate and Staff Education and Training Department. HM1 Cooper was named the 2015 1st Quarter Senior Sailor of the Quarter and won as NMPDC FY 2015 Senior Sailor of the Year. March 2018 continued his leadership career at Wounded Warrior Regiment, Quantico, VA where he served as the Senior Enlisted Leader providing medical planning oversight for Team Marine Corps in preparation for the DoD Warrior Games.


Petty Officer Cooper’s personal awards include 2 Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, 2 Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, 3 Good Conduct Medals, Expert medals for both rifle and pistol, as well as other campaign and command awards. He graduated Saint Leo University, Tampa, FL with his Bachelor’s in Health Care Management in April 2015 and Executive MHA at the George Washington University in August 2017. Jarrett Cooper’s retirement date of a 20 year military career is approved for March 31, 2022.
